
On Sunday, August 26th, the Kearsley Athletic Department will host the 1st annual Kearsley Athletics Golf Outing at the Jewel of Grand Blanc. Don't miss this fun-filled, community event to kick off the school year! There will be games out on the course, hole-in-one contests, longest drive, door prizes, a silent auction and lots more!
Your $80 entry fee includes golf, buffet lunch, and prizes. All golfers who participate will have the opportunity to designate which athletic program they would like to support and $30 of their $80 entry fee will go directly to that program. On Tuesday May 22nd, Kearsley will host a McLaren Sports Medicine athletic physical clinic at 6:00 pm in the KHS gym. Cost is $20. MHSAA rules require all students who wish to participate in a sport during the 12-13 school year to have a physical dated on or after April 15, 2012. This is a great opportunity to get this obligation taken care of before the end of the school year! Please call 591-5307 with any questions.

Kearsley Senior Peter Nagy has been selected as the Kiwanis Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March. Peter has been a eight-time varsity letter winner in Cross Country, Basketball and Baseball. He was named 2nd team all-conference in basketball as a junior and a senior. He helped lead the varsity boys basketball team to a 15-win season and a 2nd place finish in the conference. As a baseball player, Peter has been named to the all-conference 2nd team as sophomore and honorable mention as a junior. Peter has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and has been named a Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete on eight occasions. Peter is a member of the National Honor Society and has also been a Special Olympics volunteer. Congratulations Peter!

This caps an incredible career for the four senior members of the team, Jessica Dawes, Chyanne Hibbs, Holli Hollister, and Lindsey Ploof. In their careers, they finished with three league championships, a regional title, four trips to the state finals, a state runner-up finish in 2010, a state final four appearance in 2011 and capped it off with a state championship in their final team appearance of their careers. This is the ninth MHSAA State Championship in Kearsley history. Congratulations to team members Jessica Dawes, Kayla Emmendorfer, Rebecca Iversen, Holli Hollister, Chyanne Hibbs, Teagan MacDonald, Lindsey Ploof and Amanda Thompson and Coaches Rob Ploof, Pam Ploof and Doug Brownfield on an incredible accomplishment!

The KBH United Varsity Hockey team, comprised of players from Kearsley, Brandon and Holly, finished the regular season with a 4-2 conference record and a share of the Metro League Championship. The title caps an impressive career for the Kearsley seniors who won a Metro or MHSAA Regional championship in three of their four seasons. Kearsley players on the team include Brandon Csutoras, Kody Eddy, Evan Flood, Mitchell Hollingshead, Steven Niles, Brandon Orth, Jordan Orth, and manager Vivian Nissila. The team opens MHSAA tournament play on Tuesday, February 28th when they host Flushing in a Pre-Regional contest at Perani Arena. The puck drops at 7:00 pm.

It was a banner day for the Girls and Boys Bowling teams at the MHSAA Regionals at Monitor Lanes in Bay City. The girls brought home Kearsley's first ever MHSAA Regional bowling title with their first place finish at the 15-team regional. The girls were led by Jessica Dawes with games of 234, 211 and 199. Amanda Thompson had a 212 game, Lindsey Ploof had games of 200 and 173, Chyanne Hibbs with games of 193 and 180, Kayla Emmendorfer with games of 206 and 162 and Holli Hollister with games of 157 and 152, The boys team also advanced to the state finals with their impressive third place finish. The MHSAA Division 2 State Finals will take place next weekend at Century Lanes in Waterford. The team portion is Friday, March 2nd followed by the single portion on Saturday, March 3rd. Congratulations to both teams on their outstanding performances, FEAR THE STING!

Four Kearsley wrestlers punched their tickets to the MHSAA Individual State Finals with their performances at last Saturday's regionals at Mt. Pleasant High School. Jakob Chapman (103), Mitchell MacArthur (112), Mathew Minus (152) and Robert James (171) all advanced. The Individual State Finals begin on Thursday, March 1st and conclude on Saturday, March 3rd at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Congratulations guys and good luck at states!

The Competitive Cheer team has enjoyed a breakout season and that continued with their performance at Friday's MHSAA District competition at Brandon High School. With their 4th place overall finish, the team advanced to next Saturday's MHSAA Regional at Gibraltar-Carlson High School. Action begins at 10am next Saturday. Congratulations ladies!

With a 3-pointer from the corner at the end of the 1st quarter at Lapeer East on Thursday night, Senior Paul Adas eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career. He is the first Kearsley Boys Basketball player to ever reach the 1,000 point mark. Congratulations to Paul on a great achievement!

Senior golfer Alicia Flood signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Aquinas College on a golf scholarship this afternoon. Alicia is a 3-time 1st team All-Flint Metro League Selection and All-State honoree as a senior. As a senior, Flood finished with a 81.2 tournament average and a 39.8 nine hole average. She led the Hornets to 2nd place overall finish at the Metro League tournament and a berth in the MHSAA D2 State Finals. An excellent student as well, Alicia was honored as the Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October. Located in Grand Rapids, Aquinas is a NAIA school and members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Congratulations Alicia!

With a 27-3 defeat of Swartz Creek on Saturday, the Kearsley Girls Bowling team captured an outright Flint Metro League Championship with a perfect 8-0 conference record. This is the third consecutive Metro League title for the Girls Bowling team. The team is ranked #2 in the state in most recent state coaches poll. Senior Lindsey Ploof has been named the Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for January. Lindsey is a three-time all-conference bowler, being named to the first team in both her sophomore and junior seasons. Lindsey has helped lead the girls bowling team to a state runner-up finish in 2010 and a state final four apperance in 2011 along with two Flint Metro League titles. She finished Division 2 state runner-up in the singles portion of the state finals as a sophomore and was Division 2 state champion as a junior and earned All-State recognition. She was also named the Flint Journal Female Bowler of the Year and was named to the Flint Area Winter Dream Team. In addition to her bowling commitments, Lindsey serves as the historian of the National Honor Society. Lindsey is the fourth Kearsley student-athlete to receive this honor this year joining September honoree Isaac Diener, October winner Alicia Flood and December winner Paul Adas. Congratulations Lindsey!

Senior Paul Adas has been named the Flint Metro League Kiwanis Scholar-Athlete of the Month for December. Paul has lettered in four varsity sports in his high school athletic career. He was named to the Flint Metro League Boys Basketball All-Conference 2nd team as a sophomore and 1st team as junior. Paul received Honorable Mention Class A All-State honors by the Detroit Free Press and BCAM Special Mention All-State Class A honors. He was also a 2nd team all-conference infielder in baseball. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was named the Kearsley winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman award. Congratulations Paul!


Three Kearsley fall athletes have been honored with all-state recognition. Senior golfer Alicia Flood was named All-State by the Michigan High School Golf Coaches Association. Alicia had an outstanding senior year with a 81.2 tournament average and a 39.9 nine-hole average and was named 1st team All-Flint Metro League. Alicia led the Hornets to an apperance in the MHSAA D2 State Golf Finals. Alicia will be honored at the all-state banquet on Friday, November 18th.
Senior soccer standout Isaac Diener earned 3rd team all-conference recognition from the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association. Isaac earned 1st team all-Flint Metro League recognition and led Kearsley to the district championship game.
Senior soccer player Makenna Lumley earned honorable mention all-state honors for his outstanding performance in his senior season. Makenna was a 1st team all-Flint Metro League and 1st team all-district selection!

Junior Zach Black scored for Kearsley with 10 minutes remaining in the first half as Kearsley defeated Owosso 1-0 in Wednesday's MHSAA District Semifinals. Hunter Phipps recorded another shutout for the Hornets. Kearsley will now play for the district championship on Saturday at 12:00 noon against Clio. The match will take place at Kearsley. Kearsley's last district championship in boys soccer came in 2001. Clio defeated Swartz Creek 3-1 in overtime in the other semifinal to advance.
The Boys Varsity Soccer team opened MHSAA District play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Corunna on Monday night. Ryan Fulton opened the scoring for Kearsley with a goal early in a first half. Midway through the second half, Isaac Keener added another goal on a rebound. Hunter Phipps had the shutout with nine saves on the night. The Hornets now advance to Wednesday's district semifinals against Owosso at 5pm. Clio will meet Swartz Creek in the other semifinal at 7pm also at Kearsley.

Senior Alicia Flood has been named the female Kiwanis Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October. Alicia is a standout golfer on the girls golf team. She is a four-time all-conference honoree. Alicia earned honorable mention in her freshmen year and was named to the FML first team in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She won the 2010 Metro League Tournament individual championship and finished runner-up in 2011. Alicia recently completed her standout high school career by finishing 5th at the MHSAA Regional and leading Kearsley to the MHSAA State Finals. Alicia is the second straight Kiwanis winner from Kearsley this year as Isaac Diener won for the month of September. Congratulations to Alicia on an outstanding honor!

After a standout performance at Monday's Flint Metro League tournament, the girls golf team capped off a memorable week by finished third at today's MHSAA Regional tournament at Genesee Valley Meadows. Their finish punched their ticket to next weekend's MHSAA D2 State Championships at Katke-Cousins GC at Oakland University. Kearsley was led by Alicia Flood's 84, which earned her 5th place overall. DesRae Munoz fired a 89 followed by Brooke Berta's 93. Head Coach Mark Zimmerman was also named Regional Coach of the Year! Congratulations ladies!

Senior Isaac Diener has been honored as the Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September. Isaac has lettered in four varsity sports in his athletic career....football, soccer, basketball and track and field. He has earned all-conference honors in soccer in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades. He has also been a standout in track and field where he was the Flint Metro League champion in the discus last season. Isaac sports an impressive 3.78 GPA. Isaac now goes on to compete against the monthly winners from the Big Nine, GAC and Flint schools for the right to be the overall scholar-athlete of the month of September. Congratulations Isaac!
Two days before the 10th anniversary of September 11th, Kearsley and Lapeer East will be honoring our veterans, members of the military, police officer, firefighters and EMS personnel at Kearsley's home varsity football game on Friday, September 9th.
The Kearsley football team will be paying tribute to our heroes by wearing the decal on the helmet pictured below:
There will be a special pre-game dinner on Thursday, September 8th for all honorees. All honorees will then be admitted free to game either in uniform or by presenting valid identification and will be honored at halftime.

With a doubleheader sweep of Brandon on Tuesday, Kearsley captured the 19th softball league championship in school history and first ever softballl title in the Flint Metro League. Kearsley concluded the season with a 13-3 league record to share the championship with Fenton and Lapeer West.
